Things are coming together from South to North. South is 100% open today after some lift maintainence earlier in the week, Central is seeing some additional snowmaking to build a base on the main slopes that will last into the spring, North is excellent shape, snowmaking continues on Moment and World (world will be allowed to bump up once open!). Slalom Run is is perfect race shape and we should be runing GS on Moment next week for NAR. The park continues to grow with three big hits set to go. The mix of natural and manmade snow has given us a base that is darn near perfect, best snow around. Come on down and get some (SNOW)!

Woahhhh... That jump has a beautiful takeoff. Hard to judge it too much without riding it, but that thing looks VERY nice.

I must say that the snow is the best its been in recent memory. The park is in great shape - it seems like every day a new hit or rail comes on line. Also, the monster table looks great. (and don't even ski park!) Great work this year in such a short time, now everybody get out on the hill and enjoy it!

Trust me, its not mellow. I was there while they wre building it yesterday. The deck is probably 20-30 feet. The other 2 are about the same.

Can't you groom it at night? I wanna come up Thursday morning and if the park is closed for 'grooming' well, I'm going to want my money back (if I buy a ticket that is)

Easy fella, it is open most days, added features take time and grooming and that is why it is down until four today. If you are concerned pick up the phone and call for specific awns. to whatever questions you may have. I went to Disney when I was three and Space Mountain was closed for repairs, bummer, but Micky did'nt throw any greenbacks back my way. You can email me direct if you have concerns the morning of your arrival. I suspect that the park will open as usual at or near 9am, our early bird retirees love to shred the gnar dude.

I assume your comment, removed from above was directed at me. Very nice. Still, if you have concerns about the park you can email me and I will do my best to get you the information your looking for. If you wish to offer suggestions as to how I how I spend my personal time I suggest you email me directly or give me a call, lurking around anonymously in blog throwing out that kind comment is a poor reflection on what I am sure is your outstanding character. Good day sir.

I'd just like to start by thanking all the staff at kb for working so hard to get the park up and running. I couldn't be happier with it. My beef is with the ski patrol. I was boarding the park last night (wed) and conditions were kind of slow so people who wanted to hit the kicker had to bomb it from the top..no biggie you can't change the snow. The problem is when you have to start from so high it makes it extra hard to see if the landing is clear. With this in mind, I would like to tell you about the 4 ski patrol who thought it would be a good idea to hang out on the knuckle of the first jump and take in the view. Lucky for them nobody decided to hit the jump just then but they could have easily gotten smoked as they would be impossible to see for anyone trying to hit the jump till it is too late. I'm pretty sure I've seen this problem addressed in posts before. It was especially shocking in this case to see that it wasn't some kid that doesn't know any better doing this, but instead the ski patrol who are supposed to set the example.

I'm not in the park, but my opinion is that the person jumping is responsible to ensure the landing is clear (as the downhill skier/boarder has the right of way)

If it's "blind" then post someone as a lookout. If you don't have someone to post or can not ensure a clear landing then by all means DO NOT JUMP.

This is for your safety and the safety of others. Just because someone is not aware they are standing on the landing of your jump is no excuse to possibly land on them.

The park is open this morning, as are the North and South Areas as well as Central of course. Snowmaking on Eagle, World, and Moment continues today. I have some good rider submitted photos going up at the Park Page on the site later in the day.

Making sure the landing is clear of a fallen rider is something the jumper should be doing. But watching the landing area for people sitting and standing in that area for no rhyme or reason is not something the jumper should be doing.

Park etiquette is to clear the landing quickly and to keep it clear. And there is no need for a "spotter" so long as everyone takes a second and thinks about where they are standing/camping out.

On the other hand, still more snow!!!

Hard to believe that less than a month ago there was no snow and green grass everywhere and dandelions in the front yard.

And the best part is that there is no significant warm up in site! Maybe we'll finally get a longer season into April perhaps?

I had to go to holiday last eve (thurs2/8 - for training) and I have to say that the snow is MUCH better at the mighty KB! Only man-made down in ellicottville vs. pow/packed powder riding at KB. Plus another blizzard of snow last night in Glenwood. Can't wait to get back to the KB slopes this afternoon...

Much love for the first jump. Beautiful take-off and a nice, LONG, steep landing.

Wasn't feeling the 2nd or 3rd that much though. Seems like they have a short landing area.

Just wondering, any way to do an option on the last table maybe? Jump on the one side, with maybe that big A-Frame rail setup on the other side?

5:14 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree, the landing for the last table is not long enough. As soon as you clear the knuckle, it just drops off and ends.

Twister is starting to bump up. Not quite full fledged moguls quite yet, but should be soon.

Please fix the takeoff for the flat-rail towards the bottom. It is scary bad.

First jump is incredible.

acm: what's the deal with moment only being open during the day? it has been lit in years past and its a great way to get to and from north without having to skate the whole way... i see its open during the day and closed at 4:00. what's up with that?

Indeed it is a bummer. Moment also is a hill used for some night league races,but... In one of the severe Lake storms last week or so a strange thing happened, Lightening blasted the Moment light line and Blew out the entire string. No idea whenit will be repaired or to what extent it was damaged. If they need the bucket uck to fix it I suspect it will be down for the remainder of the season, of course the days are getting longer! FYI, Blasting Holly with snow this mrning to fortify for a late season run.

Hey Shred,
Where were you last night?
It was 6 degrees, blowing sideways and snowing like the devil! That isn't my ideal vision of winter fun- but I was out skiing and enjoyed it. I was just thinking of how nice it would be to have a day in the high 30's, sun and fun...

1:26 PM

Eh, I'll take subzero temperatures and nice soft packed powder over 40 degree days and icy nights and the impending end of the season. I love the feeling when it is so cold that your nostrils freeze together when you are breathing in.

With the proper gear, it is easy to stay warm in single digit temps.

E and crew told me they took shots of each feature today, when I get them I will put them all together al pretty like and post them, or you could just check it out first hand :) I saw a few sick riders on the first big hit today, killin'it.

land on the first jump is great, last 2 landings are a too small for the size of the larger takeoffs.

when i went out yesterday, i had to waut several minutes a couple of times when i wanted to hit the first jump off to the right because people would be in the way or would stan don the takeoff, etc. etc the usual stuff that only gets people mad. is there any way to fence off that side of the park so people ar not getting in the way constantly? anyone who has had to stand there and wait for people to get out of the way will agrre with me. if my suggestion is not possible, we need to figure out some way to prevent people (mainly non-park regulars who use devils Funnel as a regular hill) from getting in the way of people trying to go off jumps or hitting the rails!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this isnt a hard concept..i love hitting the park and thursday my aunt wanted to come through and see what i could do. She asked if it was a problem and i said no..just make sure you stay out of the way of take offs and landings to the features..cmon people use your brains
