Throwing out for consideration next season... What are your thoughts on an Alternative Terrain race series running 5 weeks with 3 night comps and 2 Saturday events. The courses would be set with short "stubby gates" and the format would include things such as an open slalom through the bumps on Twister, A modified GS through the park with an option of going over a few tables on the fast line, or riding around them, but sacrificing some time in doing so, A "super G" on woods trail, perhaps a "Gelande" jump (nordic ski jump style big air for distance). No speed suits allowed and the stubbies are snowboard friendly. A snowboard class would be key in making this work, the number of folks at the Crazy 8s comp shows some interest is out there. I can do this for next season if folks want it. Speak up and let me know your thoughts on alternative ski/board race events and the idea in broad scope.

awesome idea! i'm sure that my crazy kid will be first in line to sign up. it would really cool if you had grom/ 'over the hill' /tele/female etc. classes to spice things up. if so, i might be tempted to sign up myself. some sort of nominal entry fee for the whole series up front would get people out for all the dates. this sort of creative/original idea is just what kb needs to keep interest in the off season. who knows, my son might actually train over the summer for something this fun!

Bring back Skier/BoarderCrosses.

The rollers on Moment are perfect for crosses.

Why'd they even stop doing them?

Andy, what about the possibility of clearing some trees out at the top of Hemlock or over at Woods Trail or... for glade skiing?

Also, what happened to having higher profile events like the Red Bull Big Air comp from a few years ago? Ya know, comps that drew people in from out of the area?

I'm pretty sure if you look at those registration forms from the RedBull Big Air, you will find many forms from people who rarely, if ever skied at KB usually. I know I met a bunch of new people there that night. And they all bought a lift pass and paid a registration fee.

Why have events like that passed by Kissing Bridge? Unique events that nowhere else local has?

Sounds like some awesome ideas. I would be more than willing to partake in all of those events.

Where can I get some info about the cardboard box derby? You know, rules and registration etc. It sounds like its going to be fun.

Talking with many folks about the basic concept a unique, skier/boarder all ages timed event series I am inspired to cotinue pressing ahead. I am thinking of a five event series of timed races around snowboard friendly stubbis in "alternative situations" Challenging enough for the "open class" but not so intimidating that first timers shy away, and targeted more at the younger sidde of the curve. I would like to have 9 possible events to choose from depending on the conditions the week of the comp. these are single competitor timed runs, probably three runs wth either a best time counts or a combined time depending on the week. Give me your ideas, don't worry if there if they are kinda nuts, we are looking for some originality here. Remember I want Boarders, park skiers, racers and families to enjoy this together. I llo forward to seing your ideas. Thanks.

I like it, as long as we can keep the format open to participants along the ages of 6-86 and of all abilities. I'm not saying make it EASY but let's not make it so challenging that people say "naaah"

Also publicize the heck out of it so people know what is going on and are encouraged to come out and join in the fun!!

Andy, what i would like to see next year is some more kickers down in the mini park, sometimes the park is crowed so i go down to the mini. last year there were like 3 table tops and good rails and there is one small tabletop this year, also i keep noticing this closed of trail called cats meow near moment of truth, i would like to know why it was closed because it looks prtty good, also some clearing of trees near hemlock or down near south for glade snowboarding would be good

That would be a great idea! Bring it on!
Question for this year: How are we going to survive the warm spells we have been having?
Is are skiing season done for this year?

i agree with publicizing it. (i think thats how you spell it)

it would would be cool if you could make one of those e-mail newsletters that you sign up for, and they get sent out to everybody on the list. that way, it wouldnt be a problem about knowing info, dates and time of events.

Cat's Meow is closed due to a creek that started flowing down it. Major erosion and it's not fit for a ski trail anymore. It was a short run anyways, so not much of a loss.

yah at holiday valley they have summer biking, they even let you take your bike up on the lift, i would like to see that at kb, i mean the hills are to steep so you can do what they do at holiday, they just make trails in the back, and they let you bike down one of the easy and unsteep trails mabye at kb it would be like coal chute or something? but seriously try it and ill be inpressed

There is no lift served mountain biking at HV. Most of the trails are on state land behind HV. The closest lift served bike riding is Ski Denton in PA

it would be pretty sick if like te had different levels of it. Like the advance gorup could hit bigger jumps, and intermediate could hit easier stuff. and KB NEEDS A HALF PIPE

correction on the biking post at 12:06 P.M., holiday does have biking in the summer, but you have to ride up the hills, no lift service. thanks for a great season

comment on the post at 7:14. YES kb does need a half pipe, but what you need to understand is the fire power from machines they would need to make snow for it. plus the pipe dragons, groomers or whatever you want to call them are very expensive. also i think there should be a snowboard race at south, mabye like best of 3 runs. ihave it on the main hill at south. eastern new york is getting a foot to 18 inches of snow on monday, lol peace

andy,
will the blog be up and running for the summer? it would be great to allow the snow fiends to stay connected and dream of the upcoming season... after all, thanksgiving is only 7 months away...

KB definitely NEEDS a halfpipe, and I,m sick of hearing the same old story of not having the equipment to make/maintain one. It's time to step it up, make the investment in the equipment!

if you're trying to get more business, why don't you follow the industry trends instead of doing what you want and hoping that it will work for you. just a thought.

i have a suggestion i have been thinking about for a while, i go in woods trails alot and i am sick of getting yelled at by ski patrol saying that it isnt safe... i understand this wene there isnt alot of snow but comeon they need to lay off a bit more. they should just put up ride at your own risk signs so if they get injured they cant blame kb.. i mean comeone noone has ever really got injured in a woods trail at kb right?
uh im so depressed w/out snowboarding.. GO SABRES!!!!!!!!!!
